The "unit" is a block that measures 5-1/2" long by 2-3/4" wide by 1-3/8" thick. All other block shapes are directly proportional to the "unit". No lacquer, oil, stain, or finish of any kind is used on our wooden block sets. A damp cloth or fine sandpaper, if necessary, will remove any traces of a child's hard use or creative artwork.
